No more airport noise. Not now, not ever.

Welcome to Protect Queenstown, the website of We Love Wakatipu (almost Incorporated). We’re a group of locals dedicated to ensuring that our community, rather than a small group of Auckland executives, makes the vital decisions about the future of our people and our place.

Decisions like how many millions of visitors we want. And how much aircraft noise is too much. For generations to come.

In August 2018, Queenstown Airport Corporation received more than 1500 submissions on its plans to expand Queenstown Airport’s air noise boundaries. 92.5% of these were in opposition. All seven Wakatipu community associations unanimously opposed QAC’s plans.

Our community’s feedback was clear – more than doubling current passenger numbers would be too much – for us, our environment, our landscape, our infrastructure, our lifestyles. QAC appeared to listen. Its Queenstown expansion plans were put on the back burner.  BUT it’s still officially part of QAC’s business plan, despite Mayor Jim Boult saying he had ‘pushed pause’.

The point is, if Council gives consent to expand ZQN’s air noise boundaries, it cannot be retracted. This decision will affect all of us, for ever. Now – with elections looming – is our chance to say ENOUGH. Loudly.

This website includes information we have available to date. We will update as more comes to hand, so that the discussions we should all be having are as well informed as they can be.  Check out the following pages:

What can you do about this?

Protect Queenstown has been set up by We Love Wakatipu (almost Incorporated) to help you understand the issues and see how you can get involved and have your say. Don’t let QAC decide the future of our people and our place without your input!

There are various ways that you can take action – and we would love to hear your suggestions.  Check out the current options here.

Most importantly, please take a moment to join We Love Wakatipu, to give our community a voice that council and QAC can no longer ignore. And to keep informed about developments.
